«Franko is our»: struggle for the Franko’s cult in the inerwar Galicia in the context of his views an a religion

Abstract

In this paper the discussion about the honoring of Ivan Franko is analyzed. The discussion took place during the Interwar period in Galician newspapers such as «Meta», «Nova zorya», «Nash klych», «Nash prapor», «Ukrainski visty», «Dilo», «Hromadskyy holos», «Ukrainska dumka». Special attention is given to the theme of Franko’s views on a religion. Images of Franko, which were constructed by different church and political groups and their argumentation, are considered.
