Abstract

For the most part today, there is a general perception that Orthodoxy is hostile to all forms of ecumenism, and that the ecumenical movement is a process that is alien to the true Orthodox faith. Some fundamentally-minded Orthodox communities (especially certain monastic centers) directly propagate these ideas themselves. However, it would be a great mistake to assume that the whole Orthodox world is identified with this idea, as many Orthodox theologians have made a significant contribution to its development since the dawn of the ecumenical movement. So we can even talk about the history of the ecumenical movement in Orthodoxy.
