Abstract

The Patriarchal Council is a council of hierarchs and representatives of the clergy, monks and laity of the whole Church, is news in the life of the Eastern Catholic Churches. The Council does not follow the national assembly that some Churches knew under the system of Turkish rule until 1918. The Patriarchal Council adheres to the views proclaimed at the Second Vatican Council.

Thanks to the Second Vatican Council, both codifications came into force again, emphasizing the need to involve the laity in active life in the Church and providing for pastoral councils in all groups of the Church, including at the national level. It should also be mentioned that Eastern Christians, Catholics and non-Catholics, in exile annually or every two years hold in most countries the Council of the whole Church at the national level, which is of great stimulating importance.
