Abstract

The article describes Andrei Sheptytsky's visit to Pokuttya and Halytska Hutsulshchyna. In particular, the reflection of this event in his pastoral messages and fiction is highlighted; difficult relations between Andrei Sheptytsky and Ukrainian radicals during this visit were revealed; his views on the activities of radicals are analyzed. The author notes that the young bishop's trip to the territory of Pokuttya and Galician Hutsul region is conditioned by acquaintance with traditions and customs (as evidenced by knowledge of Hutsul language, local dances), the desire to raise cultural and educational work of remote Ukrainian villages and curb alcoholism, which permeated everyday life. countryman.
