Abstract

The article highlights the liturgical and theological development of the order of the anointing in the period from the Zamosc Cathedral in 1720 to the time of the liturgical reforms of
Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytskyi in the first half of the 20th century. This is a dual process of formation of the practice of the sacrament of anointing in two opposite directions, as the struggle between scholastic-legal and ecclesiastical-mystagogy ideologies. As a result, the synthesis of the liturgical compromises LV-925 and RYM-945 was achieved. The article is approaching the characteristics of the reforms of the UGCC, which took place in the conditions of its cultural and religious position between East and West.
