Abstract

"If the baptism of Ukraine is generally positively assessed by historians as an event that ushered in a new Christian era in Kievan Rus," Bishop Andriy Sapelyak rightly remarked.

Most researchers of the Church and national history believe that the Brest Union was the second epoch-making event in the history of Ukraine and Ukrainian Christianity in 988 in terms of positive consequences, a natural result of objective processes in the historical development of the Church, in the context of integration of Eastern and Western ecclesiastical traditions.
