Abstract

Atheist atheism has caused irreparable damage to Ukrainian religious art history. In an effort to overcome the Christian religion, apologists for communist ideology downplayed the achievements of the national iconographic art of Ukrainians, mostly attributing the creation of the Kiev art school to the "Russian Heritage", and the iconography of the Galicia-Volyn state in Soviet historiography in general. All this artificially narrowed the source base and did not allow researchers to objectively cover the artistic processes that took place in the western region of Ukraine during the princely era.

Therefore, the study of this problem not only expands the horizons of historical knowledge, but also provides source material for contemporary artists to restore the forgotten sacred heritage of the past.
