Abstract

The article examines the historical stages of development and the canonical and legal aspects of the formation of the Ivano-Frankivsk diocese from the state legalization of the UGCC
in December 1989 until the proclamation of the Archdiocese and the Metropolitanate in December 2011. It is proved that the Ivano-Frankivsk Archdiocese and the Metropolitanate of
the UGCC are the direct heirs of the Stanislaviv diocese , founded in 1885, and the "catacomb" Church, plays an important role in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The author emphasizes that the rise of the Ivano-Frankivsk diocese in 2011 to the status of the metropolitan was the result of intensive development of the organizational structure, religious-spiritual and social life.
