The main purpose of writing this article is that, in our opinion, the Church in the described period, and, ultimately, in our time enjoys the highest level of public trust. Many authors who studied our problems in the diaspora were deprived of the ideological clichés that saturated Soviet historiography. On the other hand, because they were mostly priests, they resorted to excessive detailing of church life, unreasonable glorification of church leaders, often not paying due attention to state-church relations.
The author instead aims to abstract from the confessional apologetics inherent in this study, and on the basis of available sources to give the most thorough assessment of socio-political and religious phenomena that took place in the Carpathians in 1939-1959.
